Act ll Scene lll

- The scene starts off the following Saturday, and this is the day that the Younger family moved into their new home in Clybourne Park.

- Ruth is in a good mood because they are moving and she says that she wants to take a hot bath and then talk to Beneatha about her night out with Walter Lee the night before.

- When Walter Lee enters the house he puts on a record/disc, and he proceeds by dancing with Ruth. While they are dancing, a white man appears to the door asking for Mama, but she wasn't home. He was a quiet, middle-aged man.

- The white man proceeds to introduce himself. His name is Karl Linder and he is from the Clybourne Park Improvement Association. He then implies that the neighborhood, which was full of white people were "hardworking, but not racist". He then says that the neighborhood feels that "negros" would be happier in a neighborhood that consist of their own people.

- Mr. Linder tells Walter that he will buy the house now before they move into it. When he says this Walter starts feeling some type of way and forces Mr. Linder to leave, but Mr. Linder seemed very surprised with his reaction to the "financial gain" that they would get for selling the house.

- Mama arrives and says that the moving guys were gonna be at the house for 4 o'clock. The children tell Mama that the welcoming committee came by to say how happy they are for a Negro family joining the family. However, they bring up the card he left with his information just incase if Walter and Mama wanted to take the deal.

- After that Mama wrapped her plant that she wants to bring to the new house. She feels that the plant expresses her.

The children give Mama gardening tools as gifts, but Travis gives her a gardening hat as an extra gift.

- Then they get a knock on the door. You could tell that Walter knew who it was because of the way he hesitates when the door is being knocked. Walter could tell that something is wrong. It was Bobo and he came to talk about the trip Willy and him was supposed to take to Springfield to bribe people to speed the liquor license process.

- Bobo says that he waited for 6 hours at the train station and Willy never showed up with the money. So the money was stolen by Willy. Walter is very angry and he keeps talking about how the money came from his father's flesh.

- Mama asks how much of the money did Walter give to Willy, and he said all of it. He didn't even put the money in the bank for Beneatha's education. It was 6,500 dollars altogether.

- Mama gets so mad that she hits Walter Lee until both Ruth and Beneatha pull Mama back.
