Poem Performance

What you're doing & why ? My group will be sitting at a table, talking. someone will approach the table (as a white man), and someone that is already sitting at the table (the black man) will get up. The man that got up will proceed with presenting the poem. The tone of the performance will have a sense of hope. After the person says, "They'll see how beautiful I am", the man will sit down and everyone at the table will start talking. As like 5-7 seconds go by, we will all say, " I too, am America". we will say that with our fists up, as a representation of black power and unity. What aspects of the poem will you highlight in your performance? We will basically highlight the whole poem, however, we will change the tone a little bit. We will basically act as we have faith that everything will be alright.

Poem Response

Jonathan Velasquez  IB Lit & Performance Ms. Guarino Due: October 25, 2019 The Red Wheelbarrow Analysis  The Red Wheelbarrow is a poem written by William Carlos Williams. The poem originated from a book called Spring of All , which came out in 1923. My first impression of the poem was very confusing. I had just briefly read the poem, so it didn’t make much sense to me. Even though I found the poem confusing, I was interested in what it really meant because the way the poet visualized what he or she saw of the red wheelbarrow. For example, when the poet said “ glazed with rain “, I could really visualize what the poet was seeing.   One thing I realized after reading the poem over and over again, going into more depth, was that from my perspective I think the poet is looking at the red wheelbarrow in a farm. I got this kind of perspective because of the way the poet describe what the red wheelbarrow was around. The poet says, “ beside the white ...

Homework Notes 10/23/19

Read any three of the poems posted on the blog on the September 26 entry and take notes on what they say, how they work, what they convey. Be specific and note stanza, rhyme scheme, figurative language, sound, tone, contrast, theme, context, meaning, etc. Poem: I, too, sing America. I am the darker brother. They send me to eat in the kitchen When company comes, But I laugh, And eat well, And grow strong. Tomorrow, I’ll be at the table When company comes. Nobody’ll dare Say to me, “Eat in the kitchen,” Then. Besides, They’ll see how beautiful I am And be ashamed— I, too, am America. Notes: - There are 5 stanzas - There is no rhyme scheme but the flow is pretty fluent - blue : figurative language  - The meaning of the poem is that the poet is black, and he has always been told to eat in the kitchen because his peers don't want him to be seen. However, he talks about how he will be coming out of his shell, and will be eating at the mai...

Final Draft Reflection

1. How did your final draft turn out? Personally, I feel like my final draft went really well. I really put a lot of effort into it. Mostly because I could really relate to the poem. I have family in the system for things they didn't do. However, the best work comes from the most passion. 2. What did you work on from your previous drafts? I added about 2-3 sentences to each meaty paragraphs, trying to relate my topics to reality. 3. Overall, what was difficult; what was easy for this assignment? Honestly, the only difficult thing I had while writing this analysis, was keeping the word count under or equal to the maximum amount. I didn't find anything else difficult, because I had so many things I wanted to talk about, and the more you have the better. What I found easy for this assignment was being able to relate the poem back to reality. 4. Overall, what are your strengths ; weaknesses on this essay? My strengths and my weaknesses are the same thing. I have stren...

Poem Analysis Final Draft

Jonathan Velasquez  IB Lit & Performance Ms. Guarino  Due: October 14, 2019 We Stand Above the Line The first time I listened to "Trauma" my eyes were opened to another perspective of life. It made me understand reality, but the kind of reality that makes you angry, confused, and most of all, sad. The way the poet, Meek Mills, presented this beautiful work of art, was quite impressive. He gave me a sense of motivation. This poem shows all the struggles a black man goes through in life in America, however, he also encourages the reader to never back down, to rise above the line and exceed dreams.  The struggles an African American male goes through in life are very tragic. The poet talks about the injustice that he faces in life. There's a line in the poem that says, " They shot that boy 20 times when they could've told him just freeze Could've put him in a cop car, but they let him just bleed." This is a perfect example of how Black men...
